Submission by chiropractor Kelowna – Have you ever had a headache? Have you ever had a headache that would just not go away, no matter what you tried? I had horrific migraine headaches for about five years. I tried everything out there, but nothing seemed to work. My headaches came just about every day, and there was little I could do to ease them away.
I tried taking over the counter and prescription headache medicines. I went to numerous doctors and a couple of neurologists, but no one and nothing seemed to help. I started trying home remedies thinking that maybe a natural approach would work, but again the headaches just stayed around.
After about five years of dealing with my headaches, I was quite honestly tired of doctors and taking medicine. I knew that if I did not find a solution soon, I could possibly develop a bigger and more severe problem if I continued taking the medicines my doctors prescribed to me.
I asked my doctors to run tests to find out the cause of them, but they said that there was a list a mile long and tests would more than likely show nothing more than I just suffered from normal migraine headaches. I knew that something was causing the headaches and there was no way that they were normal. Nobody gets headaches every day that hurt more than one deserves.
Finally, I gave up on the doctors and decided to live with the headaches as best as I possibly could. They affected every aspect of my life. From not being able to go out with my friends or enjoying a simple movie because the sound hurt my head. I still did some things but being in pain all the time left me drained constantly.
After giving up on a solution, a friend at work suggested that I go see his chiropractor. At first I was a little leery about going to a chiropractor because I did not think that there was any way they would be able to help when my doctors and the neurologists were unable to come up with a solution. I decided to give it a try though, because I figured maybe the chiropractor would actually be able to help me when no one was able to.
On my first visit, the chiropractor took x-rays of my head and neck. From them, he was able to determine that my neck was actually bending the wrong direction, which from his experience could cause severe headaches. He asked if I had ever been in a car accident and when I said yes, he told me that this sometimes happens because of being in an accident. He said that there was treatment, but that there was no guarantee that it would make my headaches go away and that he was willing to give it a try if I was. I decided to go ahead and try the treatment because this was the first time in five years that someone really wanted to help and was not forcing medicine on me.
After about six months of treatment and getting my neck bending the way it should be, my headaches started to go away. Obviously this is not a treatment that would work for everyone that has migraines, but if you have ever been in a car accident and you experience headaches, it may be worth your time to have an x-ray done to see if you possibly have the same problem I had. My headaches are not completely gone, but they have subsided to only having one once in a while and not nearly as painful as they had been in the past.
